Breakfast, Backpacks and Big Smiles

The annual Westminster Public Schools (WPS) Back-to-School Breakfast and Backpack Giveaway last Saturday was the perfect kickoff for the new academic year! Hundreds of WPS families enjoyed a delicious breakfast of pancakes, sausages, and fresh fruit, while dedicated volunteers handed out over 2,000 brand-new backpacks full of essential school supplies.

"School supplies can really cut into a family's budget," said Westminster Public Schools Foundation Director Stephanie Baer, "so if we can help remove that burden for some of our families, this is the right thing for a community to do."

The much-anticipated event is designed to build excitement and ease back-to-school nerves, as students get to meet principals, see friends, and even get their picture taken with Mickey and Minnie Mouse. Students were also given sensory stickers to help regulate emotions as well as our Less Stress with WPS cards, which share important tips and resources for prioritizing mental health.

Highlighting the joy of the students, WPS Board of Education President Mary Beth Murphy added, "I think kids are really excited...they get to pick out the one they want. That's always so important at the start of school: getting your brand-new backpack!"

Thanks to our incredibly generous sponsors, Westminster Public Schools Foundation and A Precious Child, for helping make the event a huge success!
