MESA, SHERRELWOOD ACHIEVE HIGH RELIABILITY SCHOOL STATUS
Under the leadership of Principals Janelle Stastny and Cindy Davis, Mesa and Sherrelwood Elementary became the two latest WPS schools to achieve Level 5 Certification in the Marzano High Reliability School Framework. It is the highest achievable level and is built around the concept that every school should have a qualified teacher in every classroom and have a system of checks and balances to ensure that students are being well-served.

Five other schools have already achieved level five status: Flynn A Marzano, Academy, Metropolitan Arts Academy, Colorado STEM Academy, Sunset Ridge PK-8 and Harris Park Elementary.

WPS partners with Marzano Resources and uses outside evaluators to certify that schools meet five specific criteria required in the HRS framework.

  • Safe and Supportive Culture
  • Effective Teaching in Every Classroom
  • Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum
  • Standards-Referenced Reporting
  • Competency-Based Education

WPS recently met one of the short-term goals outlined in the district’s Destination 2030 Strategic Plan by having all schools certified at Level two or above.

“These certifications directly impact students by creating safer, more supportive, and effective learning environments,” said Superintendent, Dr. Jeni Gotto.
