WESTY'S GOT SKILLS: A DAY OF EXPLORATION AND ENGAGEMENT
On Saturday, Westminster High School hosted its largest-ever Westy’s Got Skills (WSG) event, welcoming an enthusiastic crowd of students, families, and community members eager to explore the diverse educational opportunities available. This year’s event saw a record-breaking turnout for the “Why Westy?” portion, with over 90 parents and guardians signing up—double the number from previous years!
Dr. Gotto opened with a warm welcome, followed by an introduction to the many programs and pathways Westminster High School offers, including Athletics, AFJROTC, the Arts, IB Career Program, the Future Center, Concurrent Enrollment, Work-Based Learning, and CTE programs at Ranum.
Following the presentations, parents and guardians embarked on guided tours of Westminster High School. Tour guides led them through the school, showcasing classrooms, labs, and key facilities. After the tours, families gathered in the cafe for coffee and donuts, where they had the opportunity to interact with faculty, program leads, and students themselves.
The tours then ventured to the new Iver C Ranum Innovation Campus where families could tour the CTE pathways currently housed there including biotechnology, aviation engineering, and cybertechnology.
Lottie Wilson, CTE Administrator proclaimed this year’s Westy’s Got Skills event was “a resounding success” reinforcing Westminster High School’s commitment to providing “students with hands-on, career-connected learning experiences. Also, the parents showed intense enthusiasm for the Ranum campus following the tour.”
We extend a heartfelt thank you to all the students, staff, and families who made this event a success. We look forward to seeing even more participation in next year’s Westy’s Got Skills!
